“There are two types of journalists, those who live from journalism and those who live for it... Rene loved and dignifyed his work at the same time that he shared it in a crystalline way as the true things tend to be shared,” said Luis Martin remembering that friend, who worked with him in several times.
Relatives, artists and journalists –as well as theater director and actor- close to well-known journalist went to the “Homage among Friends to Rene Alonso,” which was carried out in “Colegio Civil” University Cultural Center (CCCCU, Spanish abbreviation) “Patio ala sur” on October 21st.
A worth tribute was paid to cultural journalist and promoter, Rene Alonso Estrada’s career -who passed away on July, 2009- among applauses that sometimes seemed to be endless and gratitude words by family, close friends and Nuevo Leon cultural life characters.
One by one, artists, musicians and journalists said a little message for expressing –before the audience- their gratitude to Alonso Estrada.
Some participants in the event were: Rogelio Villarreal Elizondo (UANL Extension and Culture Secretary), Luis Martín (theater director), Santiago Gonzalez (journalist and politician), Alfonso Teja, Pedro Piña Loredo and Antonio Mendieta (journalists), “El Tigre” and “Tayer” groups from the UANL.
The tribute was paid –in Colegio Civil’s facilities- to the “master,” lovely called by people who shared some time with him and who without being present in his classes, considere him a life’s role model, because of all education left by the iron journalist.
“I do not want to call this event as a ceremony, because it is too solemn... we are among friends, remembering a great person, a great journalist, an excellent communicator and speaker, we are commemorating a culture promoter as not many.”
“This is not a common event, because getting many colleagues together is a difficult work. I must highlight this event is possible thanks to a group of friends (journalists, artists and musicians) decided to get together because they really wanted to acknowledge Rene Alonso as the person he was, a role model person, and an excellent journalist,” said Alfonso Teja.
Rene Alonso was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas in 1952, and he came to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in the 60’s. He was founder and promoter of different schools of theater from Monterrey, as well as journalist, writer, local news information head, but above all, he was a commited journalist to his profession social role.
Rene Alonso was UANL School of Communication Science professor and he also was collaborating with pedagogues about carrying out academic programs production for the Ministry of Public Education of Nuevo Leon.
He was the “Punto y Partida” TV program presenter of TV NL a TV station of which objective was “to inform in a objective and truthful way” and “to educate audience about values.” Alonso Estrada’s participation in the TV program since 2003 fulfills program’s objective by giving voice and space to the audience, without any kind of preferences.
After the expositions of all close people to the journalist, all people shared some time together without mycrophones talking about all anecdotes –a treasure for all of them- they shared with Rene Alonso.
