In UANL Dives School two young divers with good prospects stand out, Mariana Mendiola and Daniela Diaz who are 15 and 14 years old, they are a self-improvement, conviction and spirit effort example of a generation that tries to change Mexico’s luck in sports.

They have participated in national competitions such as National Olympiad and in international competitions such as World Youth Championship as well as Central American Pan-American Youth Games.

Currently, they are considered in National Reserve for 2016 Olympic Games, on October we will know where Olympic Games will be carried out. This shows the process for being in Olympic Games is long but it is also fruitful and necessary.

“Dives are great, it is great to make them, see them, compete and know what other do in order to get a good performance,” said Mariana, who has seven years of experience as diver, and she is going to start studying in 15 Florida High school.

“Since I started, I have always tried my best, my life is different but I like it so much,” said Daniela, who has four years of experience, but she is improving quickly.

Her latest participation was in a National Olympiad which took place in Tijuana, and in synchronized diving she got the second place in a three meters springboard and the fifth place in a 10 meters platform.

These girls have been working together since four years ago, under Rosa Valderrama’s training. She is satisfied with their work and shares with us some projects waiting to be made.

“Mendiola is more advanced, she has participated in national champion during several years, we have gotten the first place many times, and she has also participated in Mexico national team for Central American Games, Pan American Championships and World Youth Championship. Last year, she got the sixth place in one meter springboard and the ninth place in two meters springboard in Germany,” said the trainer.

Competition Level

Talking about competition level in this sport in Mexico, Daniela assures Mexico is stronger than some countries in the world such as United States of America to whom they have met and won.

“In Mexico the quality is better and it helps us to travel to other countries and make an excellent work as well as win in international competitions,” said Mariana.

In Mexico great divers have been built up, they have given great satisfactions such as Joaquin Capilla, golden medalist in Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia in 1956; he is pioneer of golden medalist generations. After that, Carlos Giron, silver medalist in Moscow 1980, Fernando Platas in Sidney 2000 and last year, Paola Espinoza and Jashia Luna, who got bronze medals in Beijing 2008.

Currently, these young women are tracing the pathway for the future looking for being in Olympic Games, it is difficult but the courage and heart will set out the guideline for future success.
