“How would not I love you, how would not I love you if I missed my tests just to support you,” were singing in amusement the students who, along with President Jesus Ancer Rodriguez, partook in the parade to commemorate the “Autenticos Tigres” National Student Organization of American Football (Spanish acronym ONEFA) National Championship.
The parade took place last Monday, November 23rd inside the University Campus. It all started in the Flame sculpture and moved toward the “Gaspar Mass” stadium. This route was livened up by the traditional batucada.
Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez headed this column. He was accompanied by Engineer Rogelio Garza Rivera, the General Secretary; Doctor Ubaldo Ortiz Mendez, Academic Secretary, and Doctor Pedro Morales Corral, feline team’s trainer-in- chief.
THEY PROMISE THE BI-CHAMPIOSHIP
The “Autenticos Tigres” players – which had previously danced with the students -walked along with the University authorities to celebrate their so longed triumph, after 32 years of drought.
A human wall was installed in the University Campus’ streets to cheer the players up and to be a part of the parade that happily moved toward the “Gaspar Mass” stadium, where thousands of fans – mostly high school and graduate school students – were already waiting for them.
When the group of players and the trainers’ team got to the stadium, they were welcomed with fireworks, cheers, and the University’s anthem. They did the traditional Olympic round toward the center of the stadium and to start a brief ceremony to carry out the official trophy delivery to the Leading Academic Institution’s President.
Roberto Isaias Vega “El monstruo” and Jose Armando Gonzalez, the team’s captain, were in charge of delivering the ONEFA’s champions trophy to Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez. Bothe players showed their gratitude for the university’s authorities and the fans’ support.
“On Monday we will start working for the bi-championship,” said with conviction the young Jose Armando Gonzalez. This commitment was reiterated by coach Pedro Morales Corral, who was evidently excited.
“Love to the University is the most important thing. This led us to obtain this championship; we won thanks to our institution,” said to the people gathered in the stadium, out of which he emphasized the 1977 National Championship winners.
Ancer Rodriguez made it clear that the “Autenticos Tigres” ONEFA Championship was due to the work of players, Doctor Pedro Morales, the trainers and the directive team, and mentioned in advance that they will receive permanent support.
“Young ones, we trust that we are walking toward the bi-championship. The former ‘Tigres’ are here and they are also excited for 32 years ago the one as you did now. We are walking toward the bi-championship, let the University live, and let the ‘Autenticos’ live,” mentioned the UANL’s President.
