Bioreactor is a system where microorganisms are grown in order to produce a good or service. For example: vaccines, antibiotics, water treatments, bioremediation, foodstuffs, among others which are used in our daily lives.

The UANL´s School of Biological Sciences — to update in this device’s use— carries out the Third International Course “Bioreactors Operation” which will take place from November 18 to the 21st at the Biotechnology Institute.

Some of the topics this academic journey covers include bioreactors applications and use, piece the container together and break it up, its operations, besides learning about its production.

“The course’s main objective is for the students to learn about the bioreactors operation,” said Doctor Myriam Elias Santos, the event’s coordinator.

Doctor Luis Galan Wong was in charge of the course´s inauguration. He also gave the talk “Bioprocesses technology basic features.”

Doctor Luis Castulo Damas Buenrostro from “Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma” also partook in the inaugural journey with the topic “Yeast production on an industrial level. He also took the attendees to visit the Nuevo Leon’s company’s facilities for them to observe the fermentation process on an industrial level and on a large scale.

This course has a total of five programmed keynote speeches and six practices on beer creation, the bioreactors use, among others.

During the four days, it will count on the presence of invited people from institutions such as the INIFAP, the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, Garcomex, and School of Biological Sciences´ professors.

“The course is quite complete for we balance theory with practice,” said Myriam Elias Santos. “The best thing is that on Saturday we will close with perfect finale, for we will carry out the mix up, where we will be able to take picture of our results.”

This course is imparted annually for the private companies, students and foreigners to come and get to know the bioreactors use.

The UANL´s Biotechnology institute has a fermentation plant, where there are six bioreactors, required for the investigation and teaching, which were tools in the practices of the academic journey.
