Jesus Ancer Rodriguez Swears In As UANL President

“Today, I have the greatest honor and the highest responsibility, because currently, higher education institutions must play an important role in Mexico’s development,” said Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez in his first message as UANL President.

Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez –inviting university community to make a social commitment from the quality education- swore as the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon President for 2009 to 2012 period, a ceremony testified by governor Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz.

The swearing in ceremony will take place in the University Theater on October 28th, and was headed by Professor Guadalupe Evaristo Cedillo Garza, Board of Government President, a collegiate body which assigns the Leading Academic Institution President.

Engineer Jose Antonio Gonzalez Treviño, Nuevo Leon Secretary of Education, doctor Rafael Lopez Castañares, National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES, Spanish abbreviation) Secretary General, and Sonia Reynaga, who is manager of Rodolfo Turan Gutierrez, Higher Education –federal level- Secretary were present in this solemn act.

ANCER RODRIGUEZ TAKES UANL PRESIDENT POSITION

Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez accepted the challenge of managing the UANL for the next three years before the university community, after professor Guadalupe Evaristo Cedillo Garza explained that he was chosen by the Board of Government unanimously; he also recognized that University and community’s sectors were evaluated in order to select the right person in this historical moment.

“The Board of Government has chosen unanimously doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez is our UANL President, we are totally convinced that doctor creates an education as an essential strategy for development, he is proactive and understanding, he allows himself to change and innovate, and he is so enthusiastic as well as he is committed to the institution, besides a conciliatory leader,” said this university organization president.

Doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez listed projects involved in his working plan, which was presented during his candidacy: spreading and diversification of academic program, faculty improvement, students’ integral education and treat them equally, university sports, knowledge’s spreading and diffusion, post-degree studies and research’s improvement, sustainability and environment, art and culture’s spreading, and other ones.

“I find hard to conceive a greater honor than this one for a university member, who is becoming in the president of the institution, in which at, first, he was a student, then a professor, researcher and a university director; today, I have the greatest honor, but at the same time, the highest responsibility, because currently, higher education institutions must play an important role in Mexico’s development,” said Ancer Rodriguez.

Doctor Rafael Lopez Castañedas explained that managing such a prestigious institution as the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon is a life yearn built everyday in the classrooms and laboratories with all vicissitudes involved in it.

“This is the opportunity of renewing our vocation for contributing with our ‘alma mater.’ A University student, who has constructed his brilliant career in this institution, a person with 29 years of experience and connected teaching to research in many students’ generations, he is who is taking the position of UANL President, we know he knows the most pressing challenges to face, those ones which are part of his total agend,” said ANUIES Secretary General.

Sonia Reynaga Obregon, manager of Rodolfo Turiran Gutierrez, Higher Education –federal level- Sub secretary, assured that being University President is one of the biggest responsibilities a university can face to and it is much bigger if the charge is for an institution as the UANL, because it is a state, regional, national and international important reference.

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP, Spanish abbreviation) is totally trusting his solid career will allow him to lead this academic institution firmly,” said to the audience.

Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz, Governor of Nuevo Leon, who closed the solemn ceremony with a message, congratulated doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez because of his charge of UANL President and reaffirmed his committment to supporting Ancer’s work and infrastrcuture, research and academic programs for the indtitution.

“All together, University, enterprise, academy and government can improve in this superior project: construct development based on the knowledge. The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon plays and irreplaceable role. I join institution’s projects with my leadership and academic quality proposal; congratulations Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon for having a new UANL President, doctor Jesus Ancer Rodriguez,” finished state governor.
